Frequently Asked Questions
Most brides have questions about wedding invitations. That’s okay! It’s better to ask questions about your wedding stationery and feel confident moving forward. Here are a few of the most common questions I get and how you can get a jump start on your wedding invitations.
Wedding invitations should be mailed 6-8 weeks before the wedding. If your wedding is in the summer months, you should try to get them out the full 8 weeks ahead of time so guests are informed and can get your big day in their calendars. If you have sent out save-the-dates, you can get by closer to the 6 week mark. Save-the-dates have become pretty common, but whether you choose to send them out or not does not affect the regular mailing time for your invitations. Mailing them out any further than two months before your wedding provides more opportunity for them to be set aside, misplaced and overlooked thus taking away from your desire to receive a timely rsvp.
It’s always my goal to help a bride get invitations she loves that fit WITHIN the budget. The cost of wedding invitations is determined by many factors including paper, ink color, number of enclosures, quantity and design. There is a wide range of all these options and choices really depend on what you desire. Prices range from about $2.00 to over $5.00 per ensemble (that means for everything including the envelopes, but not postage).Cost per piece is always lower the more invitations you order. If you underestimate and have to order “just a few more,” be prepared to pay a significant amount more per piece for the extras needed. My best advice is to finalize your guest list before you order wedding invitations!
Your wedding invitation needs information for the wedding ceremony, reception details (which can be on the invitation or on a separate enclosure) and a way for your invitee to respond so you know how many guests to anticipate. This can be a separate postcard or notecard. You may also want to consider a map/accommodation card for reference and convenience. For your envelopes, you should also consider having return address labels or a custom stamp to make addressing easier. A custom stamp can also be used for bridal shower thank you cards and wedding thank you cards that will also need to be sent.
For Wedding Invitation Printing and Design:
• Ink cartridges and printer capable of quality printing
• Enough paper components that match (including extras for text sheets and mistakes)
• Return address labels
• Correct wording on your invitations and enclosures
• Purchase fonts/images that coordinate with your wedding style
• Invitation/enclosure layout, including detailed map design
• Cutting paper incorrectly/running out of your paper
• Paper won’t run through your printer (too thick or thin)
• Ink cartridge runs out (inconsistent ink coverage)
• The ink smudges before it dries completely
• Invitations and enclosures do not fit into your envelopes
• Invitations do not fall within standard mailing guidelines and cost extra postage
If you are set on D-I-Y, Versatile Designs can provide individual components that are easy to assemble for the handmade look you want.
